FIRST in Support of our Lands

Edgewood Middle School The Land office collects revenues from the commercial use of state trust lands. These include oil and gas royalties, grazing leases, and commercial leases. In turn, the Land Office invests this money. The interest earned on the investment is distributed to educational institutions for our children's education. Our children's future is dependent on the commitment of the Land Office to collect, invest, and grow its money for education. And it is not always the money that counts, but the commitment.

Commitment starts at home, in the Land Office. Environmental education programs are very important to Ray Powell. During his leadership, the State Land Office helped connect children and adults with the environment. Research shows that students learn more, and teachers and students are happier when hands-on learning is part of the lesson plan. State Trust Lands often serve as ideal locations for learning. The state land office's professional staff is a unique resource available to educators throughout the state. During Powell's administration over 100 teachers partnered with land office staff to use Trust Lands as an outdoor classroom. These educational efforts are a crucial link in the chain of taking care of our trust lands over the long-term. With money and commitment the Land Office will continue its long-term support of public education.
