Ray Powell's record speaks for itself. He has established an extensive list of accomplishments based on open and fair dealings. He treats people with respect and dignity. He has established a record of earning their trust. He listens for what matters to them. Powell has a proven record of getting people with diverse interests to the table to find the common ground and move forward to finding solutions. The only thing that he expected in return from those with whom he dealt as land commissioner was that they pay their fair share TO THE TRUST. He believes in open government and expects those who work with the land office to also act in an open, honest and transparent manner.
Ray Powell stands strong and tough for New Mexico's state trust lands. He has a record of holding individuals and global companies accountable to take care of the land and pay what they owe. He expects users to pay their fair share. Abusers are held accountable.
Powell audited 16 global Oil Companies that leased state trust land. These audits resulted in an additional $120 million dollars for our state. These audits must continue to ensure that our school children get the money they need for their education.
